Chlorophytum

Chlorophytum Ker Gawler

Chlorophytum counts ca. 150 species in the Old World tropics (Mabberley 2008). A single species, C. comosum (Thunb.) Jacques, is widely cultivated as an ornamental although in western Europe it is not hardy and only survives indoors. It has been recorded as an escape or throw-out in Belgium.

Contrary to for instance Knees (1986) not a single species of Chlorophytum is native in the New World.
