Lunaria

Lunaria L.

Lunaria is a genus of three European species (mainly from Central and southeastern Europe). One species is a rather rare and local native in Belgium, Lunaria rediviva L. (Lambinon & al. 2004). A second species, Lunaria annua, is widely cultivated as an ornamental and frequently escapes.

  • Biennial. Upper leaves sessile or nearly sessile. Silicula broadly elliptic to suborbicular, rounded at apex. Seeds winged === Lunaria annua
  • Perennial. Upper leaves long-stalked. Silicula narrowly elliptic, acute at apex. Seeds unwinged (native) === L. rediviva
