Ricinus L.
Ricinus is a monotypic genus native in northeastern Africa and the Middle-East. Its only representative, Ricinus communis, is an economically important species. It is cultivated since ancient times for its oil (castor oil). In the past decades it has also been increasingly applied as an ornamental in horticulture.
