Revision of Aconogonum campanulatum from Thu, 2015-07-02 13:23

Aconogonum campanulatum (Hook. f.) H. Hara (syn.: Persicaria campanulata (Hook. f.) Ronse Decr., Polygonum campanulatum Hook. f.) (Himalayas) – An exceptional escape from cultivation or garden throw-out. A small population with about 50 individuals was discovered in damp deciduous woodland in Brakel (Brakelbos) in 2013.

This species is strongly rhizomatous and seems very well established, although it only reproduces clonally (no achenes observed).

This population was initially ascribed to Rubrivena polystachya, a superficially similar species with a panicle-like inflorescence. It differs from the latter by its pinkish tepals and its lower leaf surface that is hairy throughout.
