Fagopyrum Mill.
Fagopyrum is a small genus of probably 16 species, mostly native to temperate Asia and East-Africa. Only two species are more or less widely distributed and often occur outside their native distribution range.
- Mature achene with smooth faces. Perianth whitish or pinkish, ca. 3-5 mm long, ca. half as long as achene === 1. Fagopyrum esculentum
- Mature achene with rugose, almost wavy margins. Perianth greenish, ca. 1,5-2,5 mm long, ca. one third as long as achene === 2. F. tataricum
