Revision of Phleum paniculatum from Thu, 2015-07-02 13:23

Phleum paniculatum Huds. (syn.: P. asperum Jacq.) (Medit.) – A very rare and ephemeral alien. Formerly recorded in Antwerpen (1905, 1935) and as a grain alien in Virton (1909). More recent records are always associated with grain importation: seen in the port of Roeselare in 1994 (Verloove & Vandenberghe 1995) and in the ports of Antwerpen and Gent in 2009. Probably most recently seen at the Kanaaldok in the port of Antwerpen in 2012 and in the port of Ghent in 2014.

The Belgian collections belong to var. paniculatum with glumes that are glabrous along keel.

In parts of Germany (for instance in Göttingen) Phleum paniculatum is a well-established weed of arable land, vineyards, etc. (Dickoré & al. 2008; see also Jäger & Werner 2005).
