Asperugo procumbens

Asperugo procumbens L. (N-, E- and C-Eur.) – A rare and ephemeral alien, much decreasing in recent times. Already recorded at the beginning of the 19th century (Durand 1899). By far most records are from the 2nd half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Records since 1950 are scarce, for example: Bilstain (1954), Berchem (1956), Turnhout (1956) and Willebroek (2001). However, in the past years repeatedly seen in the Ghent port area (2011-2013).

Occurrences of Asperugo procumbens in Belgium are mostly associated with grain importation nowadays.

In the Netherlands Asperugo procumbens is locally more or less naturalized in coastal dunes (Weeda 1987).
