1. Astragalus cicer L. (S and C-Eur., W-As.) – A rare and probably ephemeral alien, although sometimes persisting for several years. Apparently first recorded on waste land in Brussel in 1952. Discovered in 1995 on calcareous debris in Gent and in 2000 at a former dump site in Afsnee (Gent). At least in the latter location Astragalus cicer persisted for several years in relative abundance in grassland, along with (among others) A. glycyphyllos and Lathyrus nissolia (Verloove 2002). It seems to have disappeared recently.
Contrary to Chater (1968) Astragalus cicer is definitely not native in Belgium, its closest native locations being located in northeastern France (see also Pierrot & al. 1906).
