Crepis setosa

Crepis setosa Haller f. (syn.: Barkhausia setosa (Haller f.) DC.) (S- and SC-Eur., SW-As.) – A rare and usually ephemeral alien, much decreasing in recent times. Already known in the first half of the 19th century (Dumortier). In the second half of the 19th century rather regularly recorded in agricultural fields, especially in alfalfa and clover fields (Chimay, Houtain, Kuringen, Rumillies, Mont-Saint-Aubert, etc.; see also Durand 1899). However, apparently always ephemeral and in small number (Durand l.c.). In the 20th century still regularly recorded but much decreasing in the past decades. More or less recent records are available from Kuringen (1984), Silenrieux (1985), Roeselare (1987) and Comblain-au-Pont (1991). In the past years (2011-2013) rather frequently seen as a grain alien in several parts of the port areas in Antwerpen and Gent. Finally, recently also recorded in Hermalle-sous-Argenteau and Torgny (see http://waarnemingen.be/soort/view/6659). Crepis setosa usually is an ephemeral introduction but in a few localities it seems to persist rather well. It is more or less established in the valley of river Maas/Meuse, for instance around Kotem (repeated records between 1982 and 2001) and Hermalle-sous-Argenteau.
