Eichhornia

Eichhornia Kunth

Eichhornia is a small genus of seven species. All are native in tropical America and Africa. In its current circumscription it is paraphyletic, Pontederia L. and Monochoria C. Presl being embedded in it (Graham et al. 1998; see also Ness et al. 2011).

A single species, Eichhornia crassipes, is cultivated as an aquatic ornamental in Belgium. It has been recorded as an escape.
