Roemeria hybrida

Roemeria hybrida (L.) DC. (syn.: Papaver bivalve (DC.) K.-F. Günther subsp. hybridum (L.) Karlsson) (Medit.) – A very rare and ephemeral alien. Only known from a few localities. Recorded in 1927 on rough ground in Jonkeu. In 1995 and 2011/2016 recorded as a grain alien in port areas in Zeebrugge and Antwerpen respectively (Verloove & Vandenberghe 1996). In 2004 also seen by railway tracks in the port of Gent (obviously from grain waste). In Zeebrugge and Gent Roemeria hybrida grew along with Hypecoum pendulum.

With its lilac petals Roemeria hybrida is a very distinct species. However, in the absence of flowers it might be confused with Glaucium corniculatum (see under that species).
