Salvia sclarea

Salvia sclarea L. (S-Eur.) – A very rare and ephemeral escape from cultivation. Already known around 1811 (Durand 1899). Also seen in Visé in 1894 (foot of wall), Liège in 1906 and Kraainem in 1940 (both on waste land). Several additional records are provided by Durand l.c. Only occasionally seen in the past decades: in 1956 on waste land near Braine-le-Comte, in 2002 by a road verge in Kobbegem-Asse (close to a plant nursery, with Verbena bonariensis) and in 2012 in Ghlin (abandoned railway station).

Salvia sclarea is only rarely cultivated nowadays and a future increase of records is rather unlikely.
