Resedaceae
Resedaceae
Resedaceae traditionally was a family with six genera (Abdellah 1967). It was placed under the Cronquist system in the order Capparales but recent molecular studies places it in the order Brassicales (APG II 2003). A few genera of Capparaceae are now accommodated in Resedaceae (Mabberley 2008). Only one genus is native in Belgium, Reseda L. (Lambinon & al. 2004). An additional genus, Caylusea A. St.-Hil., has been recorded as an adventive.
1 Fruit with almost free, stellately spreading mericarps (widely gaping and exposing a group of seeds). Mericarps usually 5-6 (rarely 4-7). Sepals 5. Stamens 10-15. Leaves always entire. Seeds usually as many as mericarps === Caylusea
Fruit of united mericarps (not widely gaping and exposing seeds, only open at apex). Mericarps 3-4. Sepals 4-6. Stamens 7-40 (or more). Leaves lobed or dissected or entire. Seeds usually more numerous === Reseda
