Aegilops cylindrica
1. Aegilops cylindrica Host (Medit.) – A very rare and much decreasing, ephemeral alien. Probably first collected in 1876 and 1879 on wasteland in Maaseik. Until ca. 1950 more or less regularly recorded and often repeatedly seen in several places (for instance in the port of Antwerpen, Lambermont,…). Usually found on wasteland (most often near woollen- or grain mills) or on dumps. Only very rarely seen since 1950. Repeatedly recorded on a dump in Jamioulx in the 1950’s (see also Lebeau 1954). In the past years (2009, 2011, 2019) seen as a grain alien by railway tracks and roadsides in the ports of Antwerpen and Gent. In 2013 also observed in a dry roadside in Leopoldsburg.
