Moricandia
Moricandia DC.
Moricandia is a small genus with eight species that occur in the Mediterranean area, further east up to Central Asia. It is usually associated with arid and semi-arid environments. A single species, M. arvensis, is weedy and has been recorded as alien in Belgium.
Recent molecular phylogenetic analyses showed a clear and robust phylogeny of the genus Moricandia. The genus appears to be formed by two main lineages: the Iberian clade including three species, and the African clade including the four species inhabiting the Southern Mediterranean regions plus M. arvensis (Perfectti & al. 2017).
